Life has handed me its fair share of challenges, yet I’ve never been one to dwell in darkness. I’ve found a silver lining through every storm, and through every heartbreak, a healing. Some may call it optimism, or say it’s because I’m a Pisces. But I believe it’s more than that—it’s resilience, a quiet knowing that even the hardest moments shape us into who we are meant to be.
My son, Tom, was a radiant soul, a gifted artist with a heart too big for this world. Everyone who knew him carries a piece of his kindness, his creativity, his laughter. His story isn’t just one of loss—it’s a beautiful tale of love, connection, and the way one life can ripple outward, touching many. Every time a ripple of Tom affects someone or something anew, I am reminded that his time here was far too short, but his impact was immeasurable.
In my own journey, I notice the ripples and the impacts. I notice how they form me and change me. Every hardship, tear, and unexpected turn has made me into someone who cares sincerely, seeks out the good, and instinctively keeps going when the road is steep.
I have always believed that nothing is wasted because even pain has purpose. Even loss brings gain. So I move forward. I take my lemons, put on my rose-colored glasses and look for a glass that’s half full.
In this way, I think I model a strong, resilient and capable woman for my daughter. In this way, I think I honor my son’s life and beautiful impact on us.
And frankly, I don’t know any other way. I hope you look for silver linings too.
